We went to see the "Help" with Tauna and Tim. A story of racism in the South. Looking around the theatre - all white people. All touched by the emotions and story of the impact of racism on the blacks during that time. We all were shocked this happened in our life time. Yes, we have come a long way. But, we still need to come further.
The movie spoke to me about some positions I hold. Evolutionary journey. A web and flow. Finger pointing at me. Begging for answers to positions I hold today. Do my positions impact real people? Does anyone really care what I think? Would I feel different if I understood their collective stories? I feel impacted...and convicted....
I have changed my position on abortion and gay marriage over the years. I was much more liberal when I first met Jamie. Lived my life my way. Independent, no defined core values, - seeking pleasure, money, and control - the master of my universe.
Even though I have changed my opinion on social matters as I have evolved as a spiritual person, as an individual, in a marriage, in my friendships -I belive in human rights. I believe we all have the right to accept accountability for our personal actions. On abortion I believe if people have the right to choose they should have the right to pay and be accountable for their actions. I don't want to pay for peoples mistakes. I don't think we should pay for abortion from Federal or State money. I believe tradition plays an important role in society. For gay marriage I have never fought against the basic human rights they seek. Only the name.
But are these positions intolerant? I can see how people would define me as intolerant and hypocrital because of these views. I get it. I accept it. My intention in not to be intolerant, but to be true to my values. Is it better to go along with the crowd to fit in and be accepted? Not for me! However, intention is different than perception, and I accept the risk of putting my views out in the universe. Hoping, that people who feel different will live their mantra of tolerance. Finding common ground in other areas. Or, just agreeing to disagree. Embracing someone else's view, however different from your own - and loving them anyway. Freeing!
How will history reflect back on the views of todays culture? Will we look back and say - I can't believe that happened in my lifetime? Only time will tell.
The kid's of each generation feel their parents are out of touch. We, the kids from the 60's felt the same way. This group know as the Baby Boomer's changed the world. True revolutionaries. But, today's generation sees us as old and out of touch. Desperate to be different. Sure they have figured it all out. Until, the next generation comes of age. And wants to define their world their way. Different than their parents. Then, the cycle of the generational divide, begins, yet again. Hopefully we become better with each generation. Only time will tell.

No matter how old you get it's still fun to go back to school shopping for new clothes. Jamie and I went to Steinmart for our shopping spree...
We brought the bounty to the men's dressing room. There was an exceptionally large handicapped room where we both began trying on our clothes. All of a sudden we hear this man voice down the hall...Did you know this was the men's dressing room??? Busted!!!!
Do you like this color? I do@!!!
I love perspective shots. Can you see a sneak peak of my toes?

Recently I went on my annual Surf Trip to Central America with my buddies and we had a great time. When we arrived we were treated to some well-shaped giant surf breaking right in front of the condo we stayed in called "Casa Iguana". Randy Luce drove down from Novato to Riverside to join up with me and we both traveled together out of LAX. When we reached El Salvador we joined up with two other friends from the San Francisco area, Mark Aman and Dr. Marc Horrell. After landing in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, we headed to the coast stopping only for some weekly groceries and lunch in the old town of Granada. The water temp was 80 degrees, air temp was 80 degrees with plenty of warm sunshine. We set up a boat trip to a nice break up the coast called, "Lance's Lefts". We arrived to some perfectly formed left break waves in the 6-10 foot range. On the ride back home after a nice session there we stopped to check out a place called Outer Popoyo which was breaking in the 12-15 foot range. It was amazing to watch from the channel as local surfers were tackling this these giant waves. Check out the short video clip I took using my iPhone.
I have to say this was one of the best surf trips to Central America that I've taken, not to mention I love hangin' with my favorite "Surf Buds" (see below) Mark, Randy and Doc. Here are some pics of this great trip!
This break was right out in front of our condo....called "Ponga Drops".
"Doc" - MARC HORRELL
If you look carefully on the right hand side of the photo above ( right center) you will see a black dot...that's Mark's head!
The 2 Mark's are riding together on this one...
Mr. Aman caught the next two waves.
Randy and Mark ride one together.
I feel sorry for the guy on the red board just going over the wave...look what's coming behing it. YIKES! Clean up time!
Ah....but in the end he was richly rewarded with a great wave and a great ride. Yes indeed!
The "smile" tells it all......
Doc (on left) shoots me "the Barrell" sign as Mark indicates the size of these waves.
Time for some "Flor de Cana'.....and Coke.
Or.....A cold "Tonia" and a comfy Hammock with a "front row seat" to the show.
A view of the "Outside" wave at Ponga Drops.....
A view of the "Inside" section of Ponga Drops....purrrfection!
To give you an idea of how powerful these waves were check out this picture. Both Mark and I noticed our surf leashes had "stretched" about 3-4 feet longer after our surf sessions that day. This is not normal. We were surprised that they didn't actually snap due to the enormous pressure from those waves. Randy's actually broke earlier in the week during one of his sessions out there.
A local kid named "Alejandro" came by in the afternoon to see if we wanted to buy some of his fresh Lobster catch for the day.
I'll take these "Bad Boyz".....yum.
We paid $30. for all eleven of them. What a deal!
I named this one "Larry the Lobster" which lasted about an hour before we ate him with a side of butterd rice. Soooooooooo Fresh!
We could smell those "langostas" beginnig to boil...... (Randy & Jamie)
"King James"...or at least I felt that way.

Can we live forever? Should we?
Can we live forever? As we explore the new bio-technologies, it is apparent science will allow us to potentially live forever. Or at the minimum extend our lifetime (the same amount of time as people in the Old Testament Bible). The answer appears to be yes.
Should we live forever? Complex! If we ever needed to leave the earth and find an alternative like planet it is certainly required. Even traveling at the speed of light travel to habitable planets it could exceed our current lifespan. If we live forever it begs the question...
Do we love the same. Maybe we love so intently because we know we only have so much time with loved ones. What if time was not an issue? Would we still love as deep. Would we bond with one person for a lifetime. How many relationships would we have that were significant in nature? How many children? What other changes in our "humaness" would change if we could live forever? Would we need values? Would we need morality? Would we be as motivated to achieve the same way as knowing you only have a certain amount of time to achieve your goals and dreams?
Curious to ponder....
