Even if you are family you may not be friends. Take my sister and me for example.
However, when you are family and are friends magic can take place. Take Jamie and me for example.
Now that Kailey and Sammie are older...we have had some nice experiences in family functions...it was time. Time to move onto being friends. Sealing the deal so to say. So, yesterday, I tried an experiment...
When I was little I was exposed to museums and cultural activities by my cousin Val. I was just included as one of a group. Not really for me, but I benefited by being part of the group. Now, time to pay it forward. Except, this is for the girls. A conscious effort that this is for them. That they are special. That we are friends...
Here is how our day unfolded...
The boys and girls came over for two adventures:
- The boys were going to go go kart racing
- The girls had a choice: Museum day, movies, or watch the boys race. (Me: pick museum, pick museum, pick museum...in my head). They picked museums. YEAH
Before our respective adventures, a quick snap of the "adventurers":
Ususally, when the girls see me I am in some sort of "pajama" thing. Today, I dressed a little. No make up, but added some lace to my sweat pants. When they saw me they said I was beautiful. There is NO better compliment than that!!!!
Our adventure was to take place in downtown Riverside. Everything I wanted to do with them was in walking distance and would introduce them to many of the artsy influences our community has to offer. Our first stop...The Art Museum...
Kailey, is definitely the sensitive artist. She really was looking at the art from an artists perspective.
I told Kailey the art she was looking at was done by amateurs for competition. She thought about this a moment and said, "But my art is not like this". Then, I realized this was the adult competition. The children's was upstairs...Let's go see what the kids art looks like.
Artists in training...
Sammie Hammie...
After the art museum we were off to the library. I took the pulse of my "victims",...err...I mean girlfriends. Are you bored??? Sammie rocked her hand back and forth. Kailey, was doing fine. In my mind I thought...I needed to keep the day moving to keep up with their active minds and bodies...
Next, the library...
It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like XMAS...
Next stop...Metropolitan Museum...
Off to lunch...
This was an opportunity to take a break and get some feedback on the day and guage the interest meter of my "victims", errr, I mean girlfriends. So far, so good. However, Kailey did get a little bored because we waited so long for Sammie's pepperoni pizza to be cooked...
Off to do some window shopping...
Then, the book store. I love this store. It has a cozy area set up with classical music in the background. I asked the girls if they liked the music. They both said yes. This will set up a future trip to Disney Concert Hall to see one of the Toyota sponsored youth concerts...
Each of the girls had $10 to spend. I was happy to see they both selected a book as part of their shopping spree...
And of course, no trip to Downtown Riverside would be complete without a trip to Casey's Cupcakes...
Sammie's Photos of the Day...
Sam had a real interest in taking photos. Here is her interpretation of the day...
At the end of our day we met the boys back at the house. They were playing video games. The girls headed back to the bedroom to settle in to watch TV. Then, Jason came back saying it was time to go. They did not want to go (smile)...
I guess that says it all...a great day was had by all. Still wanting more...
And, that my friends is a great way to end the day. Still wanting more...
I love you girlfriends...
